Dr John Ives is a specialist dermatologist that has been in private practice in Port Elizabeth since 1990.  In 1995 he started The Westbourne Skin & Laser Centre to offer laser dermatological and aesthetic services that were not available in the Eastern Cape at that time.

His practice incorporated in 2012 and moved from Centrahil to the Weybridge Park area of Port Elizabeth.  Here, in park-like surroundings, the whole spectrum of skin disease is treated with tried and tested medical and surgical methods.

His interests include cycling, motorcycling, wildlife viewing, bird watching, music and reading. He has a Christian life view and remains astounded at the incredible designs and beauty in nature.

Practice in Port Elizabeth

Dr John Ives matriculated at Grey College in Bloemfontein, and then through the University of the Orange Free State, obtained his BSc (Chemistry & Biochemistry), MBChB and his  M Med (Dermatology) degrees.  The M Med specialist degree was obtained cum laude.

Dr Ives is a member of the Dermatological Society of South Africa and the Dermatological Surgery Society of South Africa.  He has an interest in all things dermatological, but spends the largest portion of his time treating skin cancer and inflammatory skin conditions.  Numerous courses, both national and international, have been attended.

He was one of the first doctors in this country to use lasers in the treatment of skin disease and for cosmetic problems.  The first use of botulinum toxin for overactive facial muscles, in the South African context, was done in this practice.
